Here's Another Verse to Think About:

Ecclesiastes 4:4- "And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man's envy of his neighbor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind."
  • There's a lot of truth in this. What do you think this verse means?

The capital market. =P

But seriously, I think it means like a guy sees his neighbor with all this stuff. So he's jealous and works to get even more. Am I close?

I thought the exact same thing as you, Justin. >_<

Here's something else to think about:

I don't know why, I guess it's my personality, but sometimes I would see someone do something and tell myself that I can do it better.

I think it's good to be driven, but can there be a time when being driven can be too much??

I agree 100%. When I read it I thought more about how we feel like we can do better than our "neighbor" can do.

16 I thought to myself, "Look, I have grown and increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge." 17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.

18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
the more knowledge, the more grief.

What do you guys think of this verse?

I think that our generation would consider this to mean hat the more we know about something, the sadder it is. I mean, how often do we think about the sad and depressing things that go on in the world? I'm not quite so sure what he means when he says that wisdom comes with sorrow though. ?

I also think it's talking about how people like to fill the void in their lives by learning more, but it just leaves them empty. As for verse 18, I think it means that the more you know, the sadder you get because it can't help you. I think there are a lot of smart people in the world that are very depressed because they don't have any friends or real purpose for their lives. It's good to learn and obtain knowledge, but it doesn't bring satisfaction.
