The Power of Prayer

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints" (Ephesians 6:18).

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Isn't it awesome that we can always talk to God no matter where or when? And that He actually listens to every one? It still blows my mind. I used to hate it when my mom asked me to pray at mealtimes. And even when I began to understand the power of prayer I still was embarrassed when me and my family would pray over a meal at restaurants. Even now I still forget to pray. But I am so thankful to God that He listens.

One day my brother Nathaniel accidentally ate something with peanuts in it. He is very allergic to them and it caused him to go into shock. He couldn't breath. He could have easily died within the next thirty minutes. We rushed him to the hospital. I was about eleven at the time, and all I remember doing was praying the whole way there. My mom was praying too.

As we took Nathaniel into the waiting room we noticed he wasn't wheezing anymore. By the time a nurse had a look at him he was perfectly fine. God had completely healed him. This is one of the many miracles Jesus has done in my life.

Alright, I know some of you have already shared, but what are some other things Jesus has done in your life because of prayer?

Wow, many times in my life I have found that praying is very powerful. Probably the best story is when my youth group went to the Liberate conference last year. Many of our youth and their parents are new Christians, and I had really been praying to see our youth get serious about God. Before attending Liberate, I prayed day after day for at least one of the kids to be impacted by the conference. All it takes is one, just one. I don't know how long I prayed, everyday probably for about a month.

Then we went to Liberate.

I constantly prayed for the youth all throughout the conference. Finally came decision time. We all had to close our eyes to pray while any kids who wanted to accept or rededicate their lives to Christ had to come to the front. During that time, I decided to open my eyes...and nearly everyone in our row was gone! All but our youth leaders, my second cousin, and myself had gone to the front. WOW!! I was ecstatic, praising God saying, "Thank you! Thank you!"

But God wasn't done yet...at least for me. :) I guess as a reward for ardently praying for my youth group, God made every kid at Liberate give me room in the mosh pit, and I stood less than a foot away from Leeland Mooring during Leeland's concert.

I easily call that the greatest day of my life so far: August 1, 2008.

OH WAIT HERE'S ANOTHER ONE!!!

A few months ago, my dad was having pain in his abdomen, like somewhere around the pancreas/liver/stomach area. We didn't really know what it was. He went to the doctor to get some tests done, and we hoped it wasn't anything serious.

Last December, the Asian Pastors came together again at the SBTC building for a dinner (your brothers were there, Justin!). At the pastor's table (where all our dads were), I noticed all the guys putting their hands on my dad and praying for him, for God's healing.

The tests came out negative. Nothing was wrong. Since that day, my dad hasn't felt any pain in that area.

Wow, prayer is SO powerful. I think we could fill a whole book of stories about prayers that God has answered.

I can't think of all of them right now, but there have been quite a few miracles I have seen. When we first started the blog I wrote about the missing car keys, that is a really big one to me. Its crazy that you put this up today, because I have a prayer request! My mother lost her purse, we are unsure if she misplaced it or if it was stolen. So, I wanted to ask you blog people to pray about that. :D
